How long have you been involved with running?
I’ve been running for about six years. I used to run a little bit in college and
in my early twenties, but never consistently.
What got you involved with running?
What really turned me into a runner was taking part in a “biggest loser”
competition with my buddies. We actually called it the “blubber bowl.” I always
liked running and I was looking for a way to burn some serious calories, so I
started running. With a few months of running consistently, I started to really enjoy
everything about it. After that I joined GNRC and really drank the Kool-Aid!
How many days a week do you usually run?
I usually run five days a week.
What is the greatest distance you have raced?
The marathon is the longest distance I’ve raced.
What is one of your most memorable race/ event and what made it so
special?
Probably my most memorable race experience was forgetting my running
shoes for the Derry Boston Prep 16 Miler. I raced in Elissa’s trail shoes and PR’ed.
The race pic is just wonderful.
Do you always enjoy going out for a run?
Yeah, even the tough days are worth it.
What are some of the things that gets you out the door when you really don’t
feel like going out on a run?
The factors that get me out the door are two-fold: first, making commitments
to meet people to run gets me out the door. Second, dedicating myself to a training
plan gets me running. I don’t like to deviate from my training plans. This probably
explains why I’m constantly training for something; it keeps me focused and
motivated.
What are you working towards currently in your workouts?
I am training for the October 28th Loco Marathon in NH. I am still trying to
work closer to the 3:10 BQ threshold.
What are some of you long term running goals?
My long term goals are to BQ, break 90 minutes in the half marathon, run an
ultra marathon, and keep myself healthy and injury-free. I also want to start
running trails.
Can you share something about an obstacle you had to overcome and how
you managed to get over it?
I dislocated my elbow last summer and it put a hitch in my plans. However, I
was able to slowly get back running. My fall times weren’t ideal, but I was still
able to run, which was awesome.
How long have you been a member of GNRC?
I’ve been a member for six years.
What are some of the things you enjoy about being a member of GNRC?
I enjoy the friendships I’ve made through the club. Through my friends in
GNRC, I find support in my training and daily life. Our runs together are some of
the highlights of my week. We have quite a group of exceptional, kind, and
interesting people.
Can you share a story that relates to you and the club?
I don’t think I can top the shoe story from above.
In what ways has the club made a difference in your running?
I wouldn’t be the runner I am today without the club. I’ve learned so much
about running from the club members. Plus, the daily support and companionship
keep me dedicated and running.
